Hand drawn digital Caricatures!

While onlookers stop by to watch me draw live on location, they quickly learn that I am using a digital medium. I get many ohhs and ahhs as they watch but I am also sometimes met with confusion.  There seems to be a stigma in some peoples minds when it comes to digital art.  They feel that I am cheating or they say that they prefer 'hand drawn' art.

I can relate to a certain extent.  When I worked in a mall years ago, my booth was set up next to a photo booth that offered a caricature option. What it did was take their photo and then apply a stretch and sketch Photoshop filter to their image before printing it out.  I feel this is the type of thing that many people think about when they try to imagine what digital art means. That the tools we use must simply have a 'CARICATURE' button that we press and voilá, there it is. I hope to dispel that misinterpretation here.

All of my work is 100% hand drawn using the IPad and the Apple Pencil (which is essentially my paper and pen). It allows me to draw right on the screen using a pressure sensitive stylus(pen). It recognizes the pressure I apply while sketching, allowing for an extremely natural drawing experience. I do all my drawings using a program called procreate. (This would be my various tools like pencil, pen, paintbrush, and color palette)  This program interacts perfectly with the stylus. It provides me with millions of colors and tools that emulate drawing and painting perfectly.

I have provided videos to the left of these two tools in action if you wish to learn more about them. I also have a videos page (<--Click here to view) on this site where you can view the process of some of the caricatures I have drawn using these tools.

If you have any other questions about how I work please feel free to contact me using this contact form.

Sincerely,
Eddie Renner.............................................................
